Sneak peak of a currently untitled series I’ve been working on! Here’s the artist statement.
In this in-progress series, I explore my relationship with my mother. Throughout my childhood, I was expected to subscribe to traditional gender roles. As I got older, I began to distance myself from those values, leading to a break in my relationship with my mom. My mother saw my refusal to act in accordance with these stereotypes as contempt for her and her culture, when that could not be farther from the truth. Soon our primary method of communication became her yelling for me from the kitchen. With this series, I try to understand my mother through the one thing I know the best: my camera.
